I’ve been busy. Like super uber REPETITIVE STRESS INJURY TO BOTH WRISTS busy. I have to keep at least my left wrist, if not both, ace bandaged for support & compression when I knit now, or I get shooty stabby pains up to my elbow. Now that I have finished (almost) all my many little projects (mostly hats) I can slack off and work on my two main ones for the moment.
So, how many hats can one person knit in a month? Well that all depends on if you’re a speed knitter or not. I’m not, but I do knit relatively fast. Recap of the hats I’ve knitted in January:
(note – images are BELOW the descriptions.)
The Cap’n America Hat (See Previous Post.). That has already been established. That was the first FO of the new year!
This was the hat that was halfway finished in the last post. The pattern is Snappy Hat (Ravelry Link). I love this pattern, and the yarn is so soft and snuggly.

Alas, this hat is not mine, it’s a gift for someone else. Which is good, really, cus this one is kind of too big for my hed.
Sparrow’s Starhat: The 4th of July/Cap’n America pattern, but I just did it up in black & teal for her, since A) she loves those 2 colors and B) She loves stars. This hat was a natural. The yarn is Red Heart, in Real Teal & Black.

This was SUPPOSED to be mine. But then I told Sparrow that it was knitted in Lion Suede, and it was purple and teal. And then she wanted to pet it. And I couldn’t say no. Besides, green is my fav color, right? I found the pattern on Ravelry. That would be the link. Click to make it work.

This one is the one that I made FOR ME. MEEE. MIIIIIIINNNEEEE. I improvised this design after I saw how the other Lyra cap worked out. This is triple stranded worsted (Red Heart in Real Teal & Hunter Green, and ILTY in Royal, leftovers from other projects.) on size 15 needles. It’s so warm and snuggly. Since there is snow outside, I might get some pictures once the sun comes up.

And my new favoritest hat EVER. This pattern is called Who?, and was knitted for my participation in the Hat of the Month group on Ravelry. I love the cabled owls! There’s some sizing issues on this pattern (which I think I should contact the creator about), as just about everyone in the group who has made this hat, made it in the childs size, for their adult size noggins.

I plan on crocheting one of the hat of the month patterns, too. That is my plan – to knit one and crochet one each month.
HA! I STILL HAVE TO START GETTING STUFF READY FOR THE FAIR! OMG.
Hat Count for the Month – 6
Hat Count for the Year – 6
Till next time, kiddies.
Phrases I never thought I would EVER use but have used in recent weeks.
- “I’m not eye-fucking that person’s (insert knitted item), I swear!”
- “THAT ZOMBIE IS WEARING A CABLED SWEATER!”
- “A cuddly snuggly soft Tommy Gun to cuddle with in bed.” (In response to “what are you making?”)
- “Like the head on the shelf of a dead man’s craft store.”
- “I could stab that truck driver in the eye and take his truck” (Truck driver was driving a fabric truck)
- “I DON’T HAVE A KNITTING PROJECT WITH ME.”
- “That bag with the skull on it would be great for my knitting.” (Said to a hot topic clerk)
- “…That pink and purple striped yarn, the one I was gonna make the Beanis from?”
- “THAT MUPPET IS KNITTING!!!!” (Said while watching “Muppet Treasure Island”. WATCH IT.)
- “I’m going to try Fair Isle, and Entrelac.” (Pass out, folks.)
This list has been brought to you by Insomnia, The Anti-Craft Forums, my stupid sense of Humor, Tim Curry’s Voice, and the movie Muppet Treasure Island.
In Yarny Stuffs:
I have two resolutions for this year.
- Do Colorwork.
- Learn Entrelac.
With that being said, I knitted this hat for a friend, as a TEENSY experiment in colorwork:

The hat was knitted with “I Love This Yarn” acrylic in Royal, White, and Red. The pattern is called the ‘4th of July’ hat. I thought it looked a crapload like Captain America’s shield, hence why I knitted it for him. Behold the following conversation.
Me: “What does this hat pattern remind you of?”
Kade: *half glancing* “Captain America”
Me: “That’s exactly why I knitted you one.”
Kade: “NO WAY.” *taking hat*
Me: “Yup.”
Kade: “Ohhh dude this is so awesome…*putting hat on* THIS IS SO PIMP.”
Me: “I didn’t think you would wear it, but I thought I’d knit it anyway”
Melinda: “Oh he’ll SO wear it.”
Kade: “Yuhp, I’ll wear it!” *stuffs it in pocket*
You know what? It turns out that colorwork isn’t so damned hard after all. Cables still rule all though.
Right now I’m in the process of knitting a hat & matching scarf set for another friend (coworker type person of dad’s). How the hell do I get myself into these messes?
Right now, the hat is literally halfway done.

It’s the “Snappy Hat” pattern, knitted on size 10 needles (since I knit VERY loosely), with Lion Brand Jiffy in “Café”. So far, I like the pattern, but we’ll see what happens when I get to the decreases.
Being that crafters read this, I’m going to assume you like Yarn Porn. What to see some sexy yarn that I just stashed? Of course you do. Because that means more pictures, and…YARN.
1 skein of Lion Brand Sock Ease (Fingering Weight) – Colorway: Toffee.

2 skeins of Moda Dea Silk N’ Wool (85/15 wool/silk) – Colorway: Wasabi

While walking through Hobby Lobby, picking up yarn for several projects (I love payday), dad started fondling a type of yarn I haven’t used: Bamboo.
He picked it up, petted it…And then looked at me and said, “If I got you this, what would you make for me?”
I shrugged and named off a few things. He shook his head, and then said “would you make me a scarf?” I nodded that yes, I would, and he picked up two skeins. After I finish the gift knitting (midwinter gifts are SO MUCH BETTER than Xmas gifts, because then you don’t have to worry about the exact date.) then I will start on dad’s scarf. Meanwhile, here’s the yarn.

(Yes, I took the ballband off so I could play with stitch patterns.)
Hobby Lobby Bamboospun – Colorway: Naturals.
Because of the texture of the yarn, the textured stitches that I’m so fond of don’t want to show through. I’ll have to play some more. But this stuff is SO SOFT and pettable. I want to fill a bathtub with it and just snuggle up with many many skeins of it.
Also, I’ve been getting emails asking about the patterns I use, and if I could post them. So here’s the deal – if it is my pattern, I will post it. If I just post the name of the pattern, it is NOT MINE. All patterns that I use can be found on ravelry, simply by typing in the name. Cus I’m too lazy to link it my damned self.
There’s resolution # 3- Link to patterns I use. Because, honestly, these people deserve it. Even though I’m a lazy bitch, they should still get their credit.
Until next time, kiddies.
