
I knitted a friend/coworker of my dad’s a hat. I decided to make a scarf to go with it after he started petting my Swamp Witch scarf/shawl. This was the result.
Supplies –
Bulky Yarn (roughly 165 yards. I used up 1 ½ skeins of Lion Brand Jiffy)
US10 straight needles (or circs if that’s your bag, baby)
Yarn Needle
Cable Needle (for those of us who can’t cable without it.)
Terminology –
CN – Cable Needle
C6F – Slip next 3 sts to CN, hold in front, K3, K3 from CN
Gregscarf Cable Pattern –
- P1, C6F, P2, C6F, P2, C6F, P1
- K1, P6, K2, P6, K2, P6, K1
- P1, K6, P2, K6, P2, K6, P1
- Same as row 2
- Same as row 3
- Same as row 2
Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.
Directions:
Scarf:
C/O 30 sts
K 4 rows Garter Stitch
Next Row (WS – Row 5) – K2, P1, K1, (P6, K2) twice, P6, K1, P1, K2
Next Row (RS – Row 6)- K3, P1, (K6, P2) Twice, K6, P1, K3
Work these 2 rows a total of five times, ending by finishing a right side row.
Begin working cable pattern, Maintaining the 2 stitch garter edging.
Knit until scarf measures roughly 36″ long, and end on row 6 of cable pattern.
Work 4 rows of garter st edging and B/O knitwise.
Band:
C/O 20 sts
Work 6 rows of garter st.
B/O knitwise.
Sew ends of band to edges of scarf, 5-6″ from one end of the scarf. Weave in all ends and wear as shown.
