Not-So-Stashbusting Scrunchie

(Note: This pattern is copyright to me, and as such it means that it is available for personal use, gifting, and charity. You may also use it as a jumping off point for other patterns, if you like, but be sure to credit me.)

Stashbuster Scrunchie.

For those little ends you have of yarn, or if you have those four balls of novelty yarn lying around. These make great one hour projects for last minute girly gifts. Also a really good project for learning how to use DPNs, since all your doing is plain ol stockinette.

Stashbuster Scrunchie.

Materials
Approx 35 yrs of worsted weight yarn – I used Caron Simplysoft in Orchid.
Approx 40 yrds of novelty yarn – I used Yarn Bee Playful in Blue Waltz Solid.
Yarn Needle
Storebought cotton wrapped hair elastic. I used a goody’s ouchless in white.
Size 6 DPNs (I used 4.)
Stitch Marker (optional.)

Pattern:
With Worsted Yarn, c/o 45 STs and distribute on 3 needles.
Work 1 round.
Join in novelty yarn, and knit in stockinette holding both yarns together. Knit until piece is ouble the length you want it to be. I knit 15 rounds, and it was approx. 2 inches long.
Break novelty yarn. Knit one round with just the worsted weight. Loosely bind off knitwise.

Assembly:
Wrap knit tube around ponytail holder (RS out.), forming a donut around the elastic. Whipstitch (or ladder stitch, if you know what that is, it looks better) together. Tada!

Thank you for a wonderful idea. My granddaughter will love a couple of these, I’m sure. Plus a good use for all that left over scarf novelty yarn.

I agree with your comment on this site knitting/crocheting is soemthing that me and my 14 year old enjoy as a past time and sharing experiencing. We love it…knitting is a relaxation hobby that I have grown to love.
